Not only will "Living With Decimals" help bridge fraction arithmetic to percent arithmetic, it will also help the student understand the basic meaning of decimal numbers and how to use those decimal numbers. The video consists of eight sections, or menus the first of which describes how to read and write a decimal number and properly read place values. The second section describes how to change fraction numbers to decimal numbers. The third section shows the student how to then change those decimal numbers back into fraction numbers. The forth section helps the student to compare numbers to each other using the greater than (>) and less than (<) symbols. The fifth section explains the arithmetic of decimal addition. The sixth section explains the arithmetic of decimal subtraction. The seventh section describes decimal multiplication and the last section explains decimal division. Each of the arithmetic sections also has several word problems to help the student understand each of the arithmetic operations. This video, along with the fractions video and the percent video, should give any student a strong foundation in basic arithmetic in order pursue more advanced math concepts.
